British Values

As a school community we consider it is our responsibility to promote the fundamental British Values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

These British Values permeate through our mission statement and ethos. Here are some examples of how we do it.

Pupils

All children are given the opportunity to write a manifesto and are elected by their class.  In addition each class has rules which the pupils discuss as a group at the beginning of the school year.  In this way the children are involved in a democratic process for drawing up a list of rights and responsibilities.

RE/PHSE Topics

We follow the Come and See R.E. programme and P.H.S.E. topics are addressed using assembly time and separate classroom sessions.  Children are able to express their own views and opinions whilst respecting the ideas and beliefs of their peers.  Children are taught to be aware of and responsible for their own emotional responses and they learn how to express them with increasing confidence.

Behaviour

Standards of behaviour at St Margaret Clitherow are good to outstanding.  We value and insist that everyone at St Margaret Clitherow works to create an atmosphere of kindness and mutual respect.

Cultural Understanding

We promote tolerance of different faiths, beliefs, cultures and lifestyles by helping our children understand their place in the culturally diverse city in which they are growing up.

Our Community

Our children, staff, parents and governors are immensely proud of our school.  We have regular class assemblies and social events.  We work hard to welcome and include everyone at our school.

IN EVERYTHING WE DO AT ST MARGARET CLITHEROW WE TEACH MUTUAL RESPECT, EQUALITY, AND FREEDOM TO MAKE CHOICES, DEMOCRACY, TOLERANCE AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR ACTIONS.
